Our story
We believe in stories and sharing them- and so, true to our 'share the process' ethos, here is the story of our inception.
Our founder, Astha, was born in Jaipur, India, a city steeped in history and culture. Her parents were both historians, and they instilled in Astha a love of stories and beauty. She attended boarding school from age 6, where she was exposed to cultures and backgrounds from around the world. Astha's love for art and design continued as she grew older. She studied Computer Science in college and in parallel displayed her artwork in galleries as an upcoming artist.
After college, Astha moved to the United States for Grad School, where she met her husband and also found her new found love for DIY. Astha's love of design and her passion for DIY came together when she and her husband bought a fixer-upper house in Austin, Texas. They spent weekends renovating the house, and Astha learned how to do everything from painting to electrical work. That's when Astha started her first blog, The Silver Nook. Over the years, travels around the world have been a source of design inspiration for Astha. Her favorite places to explore art, artifacts, and furniture have been Morocco, Santiago, Lisbon, London, Chicago, and of course, Jaipur.
Astha's unique combination of left and right brains- her formal training as a computer engineer and strategist, combined with all her artistic pursuits help her think beyond the possibilities and methods of traditional design- and approach each project with a unique technical lens and professional efficiency. She believes that every space should tell a story, and loves to incorporate personal touches into her designs. She now lives in San Francisco with her husband, their one year old daughter, and their mini golden doodle.
This passion for storytelling and custom approach to each space, no matter the scale, is now the cornerstone of Mouri Designs. Our designs represent people and their stories. Our process is not bound by a single aesthetic, rather a custom approach for each client, weaving in their motivations and desires in each space.
